While it might feel right to help the new employee, the real issue is management’s decision to undervalue years of knowledge while expecting it to be handed over for free.

If the company truly needs that expertise now, the only reasonable option is a paid consulting agreement at a rate that reflects its real value. Otherwise, it’s best to move on and let them face the consequences of their own decisions.
