A brutal murder. A broken childhood.

And now, a countdown no one can stop. Christa Pike is days away from becoming the first woman executed in Tennessee in two centuries. Her lawyers say the state’s chosen method could torture her.

The courts disagreed. Her body is prepped, her appeals nearly gone, her last hope hang…

In a concrete cell in Tennessee, time is no longer abstract for Christa Pike; it is a metronome ticking toward September 30. At 18, she committed a horrifying, sadistic murder that shattered Colleen Slemmer’s family forever.

The brutality of that night has never faded, and for many, it defines Pike completely. For others, it exists alongside another truth: a childhood soaked in violence, sexual abuse, and neglect that warped her long before she became a killer.

Now 50, she lives suspended between those two identities—monster and damaged survivor—while the state fine‑tunes the choreography of her death. Female officers, privacy screens, a spiritual adviser at her side: small concessions in a system that will still strap her down and end her life.

Her lawyers race to the U.S. Supreme Court, and the governor weighs clemency, but the clock does not slow. As Tennessee prepares its first female execution in 200 years, the question lingers in the quiet outside her cell: is this justice fulfilled, or a new violence the state chooses to own?
