According to her aunt, Carrie Ross, Christa Pike’s relatives learned through attorneys that she had regained consciousness following a reported September 30 execution attempt.

Attorney Randy Spivey said the legal team had previously understood that life support would be withdrawn.

That account does not establish a confirmed diagnosis of brain death, which is irreversible. Her lawyers reported that Pike could speak briefly but had pneumonia, a blood clot, difficulty swallowing, and severely swollen arms and hands.
